A Blackout in the Building

1. One evening Tom was in his apartment.
2. He was cooking dinner.
3. Suddenly, the lights went out.
4. It was very dark.
5. Tom said, "Oh no! A blackout!
6. Tom took out a flashlight.
7. He turned it on.
8. The flashlight helped him.
9. He walked to his neighbor's door.
10. Her name was Jane.
11. Tom knocked on Jane's door.
12. "Jane, do you have a blackout too?
13. Jane opened the door.
14. "Yes, Tom. My lights are off too. What can we do?"
15. Tom said, "Let's go downstairs. We can talk to the building manager."
16. They walked down the stairs.
17. It was dark, but they had flashlights.
18. They found the building manager, Mr. Brown.
19. "Mr. Brown, there is a blackout in the building!", Jane said.
20. Mr. Brown said, "I know. I called the power company. They said they will fix it soon."
21. Tom asked, "What can we do while we wait?"
22. Mr. Brown said, "You can use candles for light. Be careful!"
23. Tom and Jane returned to their apartment.
24. They lit candles.
25. The candles made their rooms brighter.
26. Later, the lights came back on.
27. Tom and Jane were happy.
28. They said, "Thank you, Mr. Brown!"
29. Mr. Brown said, "You're welcome! I'm glad everything is okay now."
30. As Tom and Jane walked back to their apartments, they saw their candles had melted into funny shapes.
31. Tom's candle looked like a cat, and Jane's candle looked like a dog. They laughed together.
32. Tom said, "Well, at least we got some new pets from this blackout!"
33. Jane laughed, "Yes, and they don't need food or walks!"

सदने विद्युच्छेदः

1. कदाचित् सायं टोमुर् आवासे सदनिकायाम् आसीत्।
2. स रात्रि-भोजनस्य पाकं कुर्वन्न् अस्ति।
3. अकस्माद् एव दीपा निर्वापिताः।
4. बहु अन्धकारः आसीत्।
5. "हा हन्त! विद्युच्छेदः" इति टोमुर् अवदत्।
6. टोमुः करदीपं गृहीतवान्।
7. तं ज्वालयति स्म।
8. कर-दीपः द्रष्टुं तस्य साहाय्यम् अकरोत्।
9. प्रतिवेशिन्या द्वारं प्रति गतवान्।
10. "जेनुः" तस्या नाम आसीत्।
11. द्वारं टोमुस् ताडितवान्।
12. जेनो! तव गृहे अपि विद्युच्छेदो जातो वा?
13. जेनुर् द्वारम् उद्घाटितवती।
14. "आम्! टोमो! मम दीपा अपि निर्वापिता जाताः। किं कर्तुं शक्नुवः?"
15. "अधो गत्वा सदनपेन सह सम्भाषणं शक्यते" इति टोमुर् अवदत्।
16. सोपानानाम् अधः अचलताम्।
17. अन्धकारः अस्ति किन्तु तयोः पार्श्वे कर-दीपौ स्तः।
18. तौ सदनपं ब्रौन्-महोदयं दृष्टवान्।
19. "ब्रौन्-महोदय, सदने विद्युच्छेदो जातः"  इति जेनुर अवदत्।
20. "जानामि। विद्युत्-संस्थां दूरवाणीम् अकरवम्। ते अवदन् यत् शीघ्रम् एव समीकरिष्यन्ति।" इति बरौन्-महोदयः अवदत्।
21. "प्रतीक्षा-काले किं कर्तुं शक्यते" इति टोमुर् अपृच्छत्।
22.  "ज्योतिषे सिक्थवर्तिका-प्रयोगः करणीयः। सावधानता भवेत्।" इति ब्रौन्-महोदयेन उक्तम्।
23. टोमुर् जेनुश् च स्व-स्व-सदनिकां प्रत्यागतवन्तौ।
24. ताभ्यां सिक्थवर्तिके ज्वलिते।
25. सिक्थवर्तिकाभ्यां तयोः कक्षाः प्रकाशेन आसन्।
26. अनन्तरं विद्युद्-दीपाः पुनर्ज्वालिताः।
27. टोमुर् जनेश् च आनन्देन आस्ताम्।
28. "धन्यवादः! ब्रौन्-महोदय!" इति तौ अवदताम्।
29. "मम सौभाग्यम् एतत्। सर्वं कुशलमस्ति इति सन्तुष्टः अहम्।" इति ब्रौन्-महोदयेन उक्तम्।
30. टोमुर् जेनुश् च स्व-स्व-सदनिकां प्रत्यागत्य दृष्टवन्तौ यत् तयोः सिक्थवर्तिके द्रवीभूय विलक्षण-आकृतीर् अकुर्वन्।
31. टोमोः सिक्थवर्तिका द्रवीभूय मार्जारीवद् एवं च जेनोः सिक्थवर्तिका द्रवीभूय कुक्कुरवद् दृश्यते स्म। युगपद् अहसताम्।
32. "अस्तु! न्यूनातिन्यूनं नूतन-गृह-पशू लभ्येते विद्युच्छेद-कारणात्" इति टोमुर् अवदत्।
33. "आम्! ताभ्यां भोजनं वा चालनं वा अनावश्यकम्" इति हसन्ती उक्तवती जेनुः।
